Hello, I'm Arthur and this is an introduction 👋

I always find labels and summaries challenging but it is probably a useful shortcut to to think of me as a designer/maker, a Cymro in Liverpool, UK.

Outside of earning-work I run a community company, Plastic Tactics, attempting to plant seeds of systems change through adventurous plastic recycling sessions.

I'm pathologically curious so social media can edge into an addiction for me. Hoping for a slower pace and kinder space here on Mastodon.

A friend lost their Instagram account to a phishing scam today, playing on their kindness to help a stranger out.

We plugged the leak, with many people helping us by reporting the account, which was taken down before anyone else was swindled with the same trick.

That platform has been their biggest marketing tool for their small business. Such a fragile relationship between big platforms and the vast majority of users.

The experience encouraged me to shift my attention towards the fediverse.

New here, I'm a curious connector of ideas and people
Love finding out what's and who is out there
Asking questions, being provocative etc
My actual paid work...is engagement, arts, project management, event facilitation of all kinds, hiring out and staffing of roving shipping containers of play and creativity into a variety of places
Taking Empty shops and turning into Playlabs
Setting up communties of interest/practice

Important (if belated) from this week, as we hire our first (after me) full-time employee! Week 862 - Welcome to the Team, Nikki! dlvr.it/SNVb4x

@mdales have you got any experience getting CNC toolpaths out of FreeCAD? Wondering how to wean plastic tactics off Fusion 360 :)

Please laugh

“We’re no longer a photo-sharing app or a square photo-sharing app.”

The end of an era, Instagram is now focusing primarily on video.

We're still here, and more dedicated than ever to our mission of creating an ethical photo-sharing platform.

I am currently following or putting in follow requests for a few people using the lists on communitywiki.org/trunk/ following some of my interests such as 'accessibility' and 'makers'.

If I just followed you and you're checking me out - hello! I think you're interesting!

I'm still getting used to the various cultures on the fediverse to hope my follow request was an acceptable experience for you.

Okay, created a repository on SourceHut for the documenting of how people with disabilities use digital interfaces (computers, phones and such). I hope it's worth it.

This looks interesting - Welsh Government has set up a blog seeking views on the development of streams of work arising from the WFG legislation

Until 8 July projects can apply to get help by the @fsfe with adopting the #REUSE best practices and to clarify their licensing and copyright situation, so that their users and re-users have to deal less with some of the legal aspects in future.

This beautiful piece of data should add to the concern we have about the heating of our planet, and to our resolve to do even more to fight against the systems that perpetuate GHG emisions.

@arthrowl It started with this posting though: zylstra.org/blog/2018/11/on-di that a long tail of instances is a measure of the actual distributedness of federated/distributed tools. And that Mastodon was not very distributed at all: a handful of instances had 80% of users. As the purpose of Mastodon is distribution, I think Mastodon can only be deemed sustainable if there is a true long tail. Meaning, that while the number of users goes up, the number of instances should go up at a much faster rate
