Have spent most of today with a pair of oscilloscopes probing a rather sensitive formaldehyde sensor circuit trying to debug a source of noise.
That has included my colleague Paul generating plots like this one from the HPGL output of his old CRT 'scope, connected via an RS232 serial cable

Our lab HP pen plotters all ran on that, and we did IC and PCB mask layouts with it from an overly complex HP BASIC package my colleagues and I maintained... happy days Also 'scope printouts and many other test diagnostics for the automatic on wafer test system we designed and coded.
I recall HP gear for microwave engineering was £££ and we did break a few things with code bugs moving the motorised stage around under the probes
