I mean, Black people here have been saying this since the fifties *at least* - pretty striking that so much of the public at large is only now catching up in light of recent events.
I can't help but be salty about it tbh, after years of us being fobbed off with "stop committing crimes / get jobs / dress differently" as a way of avoiding police discrimination and violence. Not only are the former two not even a factor for the vast majority (and should not be an invitation for victimisation anyway), but when it comes to the latter, have you *seen* how Black people in the UK used to dress in the 50s and 60s? Trust me, clothing/style of dress was *not* an issue.
And it's not just the Met either. To name just one famous case from my home city, go and look up David Oluwale, if you have a strong stomach.
