And he wants to set up a UK style DOGE to reduce waste. Does he know most councils are stripped to the bone and can barely pay for anything? Plus DOGE has been such a success in the US! [Sarcasm]

we've had doge for 15 years, we just did it a bit slower and called it Austerity.
@UKFilmNerd My assumption is that he intends to pay for 'easy wins’ (potholes, bins, free parking) by cutting things he thinks his core voters won't care about (SEND provision, Pride, cycle lanes, LTNs) or won't care about in the next few years. I would also expect to see a sell-off of any remaining council assets (esp. ones that won't cause headlines)

@dan @UKFilmNerd cycle lanes and LTNs are very likely built by the same companies who fix the potholes and build carparks (everything seems to be outsourced these days), and they would have signed contracts expecting a certain amount of work. If that work disappears, they are going to have to lay off staff or might even go out of business, and the Council would struggle to do the "motorist-friendly" work...
