The Daily Mail went all-out for the 1906 general election, illuminating London's skyline with searchlights which spelled out election returns in morse code, and colour-coded rockets to tell watchers which party had won a seat.
It also put on special trains, messengers in theatres, and deployed 'bio-scope' displays which used magic lanterns to project results.
The election lasted two weeks; I expect people were a bit tired of it by the end.
