With the shit about to go down in the US, I want to make a pitch to my non-tech social groups to get off WhatsApp. What would you do? Is Signal the right recommendation, or is it potentially subvertable?
@Floppy Signal is a US organisation with servers in the US, operating under US jurisdiction. They themselves claim to save a _lot_ less stuff than most alternative services though, and in most cases they are not going to be the place where subversion hits, but rather Google/Apple (depending on if your phone runs iOS/Android).
@Floppy@mastodon.me.uk@pettter yeah, that US connection is my main concern. No point jumping ship to something with the same political vulnerability.
Good point that they won't be the weakest link though.
