Dreadnought Holiday

This week's is MV Explorer.

Built to explore the polar regions, it explored exciting grounding opportunities in the Antarctic in 1972 and 1979. Definitely lost in 2007 after accidentally hosting a meeting of the Titanic Reenactment Society.

The accident report later suggested that the invitation for an iceberg to join the passengers and crew for an exciting evening of events had been extended rather too hastily.

Also Antarctic ice "is harder", apparently.

MV Explorer, pictured at an angle that strongly implies evening drinks will be cancelled tonight. Or at the very least sliding sideways along the deck. The red hulled ship is leaning at about 45 degrees.

My favourite note about this is a newspaper article in which an expert explains it's all rather mystifying. The ship was "perfect for ice exploration", apparently.

I'm not sure who the expert was, but I'm assuming it's this guy:

Captive orca - stop it, it's cruel - with a microphone held in front of it as if it's giving an interview. And seriously, stop keeping cetaceans in captivity.
