Model of Thomas Meriton's spring-shanked anchor, a concept that - unpromisingly for an anchor - sank without trace.
Modern yachts use a snubber to damp the forces from an anchor. They do not use a half-baked maritime pogo stick.
@DreadShips I see your pogo anchor and raise you the patented anchor from Franz Sommes, 1823:
@Habrok42 it was exactly this sort of weird crap I was looking for!
@DreadShips If interested, there are more drawings of strange but patented anchors in the same book :-)
@Homoevolutis0 In which sense why? The spring, or why is it bad?
@DreadShips One of my top 10 favourite Simpsons episodes
@DreadShips Is that worse or not as bad as a Popovka ship?
@simonwilliamson did their close cousin a few weeks ago!
@DreadShips Ahh yes, the spring-anchor, or spranchor as nobody called it, wisely.
@DreadShips Dude? Want to go see Half-Baked Maritime Pogo Stick this weekend? I hear they put on an amazing show. #bandname
